Language Functions For Interpersonal Communication

Current graduates have an abundance of technological knowledge. The can do linear programming problems, develop solutions using neural network and others. Technically they are solid, but most lack the interpersonal and social skills necessary to improve which is essential in order to develop people skill especially when they are out there working.

Interpersonal communication is the process by which people exchange information, feelings, and meaning through verbal and non-verbal messages: it is face-to-face communication. Interpersonal communication is not just about what is actually said - the language used - but how it is said and the non-verbal messages sent through tone of voice, facial expressions, gestures and body language.

The following tasks is designed based on this concept.

Outcome:

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

🍑Within communication there are two types of communication which is the verbal and nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication can affirm or belief the words actually being spoken. Communication can be hindered when verbal and nonverbal cues seem to contradict what's being said. When verbal and nonverbal communication messages act in concert, information is communicated more effectively.

2) The communication process

🍑Communication is a process because senders and receivers act as senders and receivers simultaneously, with the receiver’s feedback serving as a key element to continuing the process. The components of the communication process involve the source, sender, channel, message, environment, and noise.

TASK UNIT 1A Types of Communication

At the end of this lesson, students would be able to

Appreciate the types of communication in a conversation

Examine the types of verbal and nonverbal communications.

Describe the differences between the formal, informal and kinesis communication.

2) Based on the same movie, think about the different types of nonverbal communication that affect communication. Identify the types of nonverbal communications that affected communication. Show the pictures of the nonverbal actions and list down some examples. Elaborate how body language can make communication worse?

3) Based on the movie, identify one situation, think about the advantages and disadvantages of verbal and nonverbal actions. Write down the pros and cons of the different types of communication in the situation.
